Officials Training
Our summer season is fast approaching and plans are underway to be ready! As you know, summer swim relies completely on parent volunteers. Some of the volunteer positions require specific training offered by the LAL organization including Stroke and Turn Judges and Starter/Referee. Wildwood is in need of volunteers for these positions! The clinics are free and only require two hours of your time. In order to certify for Starter/Referee, one must be currently certified for Stroke and Turn or sit for the Stroke and Turn clinic in addition. If you currently hold certification for VHSL or USA Swimming, you do not need to recertify for LAL.
Below are the dates and times for each clinic. You need only to attend one day for either clinic.
Location: 3721 Cohen Pl. Lynchburg.
This is the office of Harco Fittings. Training will take place in the conference room. Parking is to the left of the office entrance.
Dates: May 16, 2026, May 31, 2026, OR June 6, 2026 (Stroke & Turn ONLY)
8AM for Stroke & Turn
10AM Starter/Referee
Please remember those S&T that are getting their recertification do not have to attend the class (see note below). You do need to take the test, by sending an email to Trey at [email protected], so that he can send a link with the test to take.
Anyone that is S&T certified and wants to get starter/ref certified, will need to attend the starter/ref class.
Note: You may attend the S&T class if you want, but it is not required anymore for recertification. Anyone looking for a refresher can also check out Officials Training Videos .
Please note that LAL follows the VHSL rules for backstroke and some minor changes that have occurred for all strokes since these videos. As a reminder, anybody who was certified via USA, VHSL, or YMCA for S&T or Starter/Ref, since 2024 are currently eligible for LAL this year without a test. Just notify Trey, so that he can update the league list.
